There is an art to the business of coaching. Patrick will explore various ways for a skating coach to be successful “in the business”. You will gain insight in how to create a balance of what is best for the skater, parent and the facility you work in and create a positive environment for all.

We will review how the merge of our companies has progressed over the past two years, and how we are better serving the ice industry as a collaborative group. In regards to the pandemic, we will be presenting products that have positively impacted arena operations and facility user safety. We will discuss effects the pandemic has had on product supply chains, material costs, shipping and logistics, in regards to ice arena operational and construction products. ISI Connect Speaker Bios
Experienced professional with a demonstrated history of working in the ice sports industry for 20 years. Skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Budgeting, Facility Management, Customer Relationship Management, and Event Management. Strong business development professional with a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) (currently ABD expected graduation date 2022), focused in Leadership Studies from Bowling Green State University, dissertation topic on Crisis Readiness of Ice Arena Managers. Jamie is one of 12 ice arena professionals to earn the highest distinction of Certified Arena Executive. She has served on the ISI Board of Directors for 16 year, in several roles and is currently the Schools/Colleges/University Section Representative and Co-Chair for the ISI University Certification Program.
A former skating coach, professional pairs skater and two-time national champion and six-time medalist, Burgess is the founder of Olio Fitness (olio.fit), which provides skating specific strength and conditioning plans for skaters of all levels. He believes proper off-ice training will give skates the extra edge in developing and mastering new on-ice elements.
ISI President Rob McBride founded his own ice sports facility management firm, FMC Ice Sports, in 1992. The company operates 23 facilities in Massachusetts, making it the largest operator of public ice arenas in the country. McBride’s business model or private/public partnership was hailed in Forbes Magazine. In 2005, McBride became ISI University’s first Certified Arena Executive (CAE) and its chair the following year. He was elected ISI president in 2014.
Robb Olexin heads up project development sales for Becker Arena Products, where he has been employed for 20 years. He is responsible for developing construction products for new and existing facilities. A former ice arena operator and ice maker/painter, Olexin also serves as Becker Arena Products ice technician.
U.S. Figure Skating double gold medalist in Freestyle and Dance, Patrick O’Neil has over 20 years’ coaching experience with athletes of all ages and abilities, from the grassroots through national level. He is a licensed child and family therapist and enjoys conducting seminars domestically and internationally with coaches and skaters on the “how’s” and “why’s” of teaching.
Team Alaska Skating School Coach Cindy Solberg is a certified Yoga Alliance instructor. Her classes strive to reduce stress and improve balance, flexibility, muscle tone, sleep and general well-being. A retired skating director, Solberg serves as the ISI District 16 director and is a PSA master-rated coach and international referee.
As founder and president of Accent Refrigeration Systems, Art Sutherland has been designing and installing recreational ice refrigeration systems around the world for 40 years. His projects focus on energy efficiency, heat recovery and reliability. Sutherland has worked for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), overseeing the installation of Olympic venues for three Winter Olympics.
