Judging at ISI competitions is done by trained and certified ISI Professional members. All coaches who have students participating in an ISI competition are required to volunteer their time to judge at the event.
In order to become certified to judge at ISI competitions, the Professional must pass at least one level of the ISI Judge Certification. All judges must be at least 16 years old.
- The certification tests are offered online.
- All tests are open book.
- This exam style is used to test the candidate’s knowledge of maneuver requirements, competition events, event levels, penalties, and knowledge of where to find the correct information in current ISI publications.

FREE Live Webinar for ISI Professional Members
“Ooops! A mistake by a skater = A penalty by the judging panel”
Get ready for another engaging online webinar with the ISI national referees! The webinar will feature a video montage, from a recent national competition, which shows various mistakes made by skaters and the penalties that were assessed. Participants will be able to join in on a discussion regarding these penalty assessments. A valuable exercise for all coaches and judges is seeing how a skater’s technique and program choreography contribute to the skater’s score and overall outcome.
The session will be offered twice – select the one that is most convenient for your schedule. (Register for one session only. Open to current ISI Professional members.)
